Located on Mount Montjuïc close to the Olympic Stadium and Arata Isozaki’s Palau Sant Jordi, this transmission tower was built for the 1992 Olympic Games by telecommunications company Telefónica. Santiago Calatrava’s dynamic interpretation of an athlete holding the Olympic torch has been an icon of the city since then. A white mosaic at the base of this white structure of metal and concrete explicitly references the architectural work of Gaudí.
