It’s worth your while to make an appointment to visit MAUS and make your way to the Songjiang district. The three founders of this private museum for mainly Chinese contemporary art have found a special place here. Throughout the grounds surrounding the museum, artifacts of a bygone China—bridges, private homes, schools, in some cases centuries old—consisting of beams, antique furniture, stones, and sculptures are stacked, restored, and reassembled in exhibition halls.
